While most people are settling in with the latest generation of gaming consoles, Gran Turismo 6 and its tenacious user base still keep the Playstation 3s chugging along. This is mainly due to the fact that the venerated racing simulator is still the best way to get up close and personal with some of the most exciting race cars on the track today, including Nissan’s new GT-R LM car.

With just a few weeks until the car’s debut at the famed 24 of Le Mans, the unique front-wheel drive LMP1 can be added to your garage for free- no actual or in-game money required.

It’ll take a bit of effort to get it though, as seasoned Gran Turismo Players will be used to. TO acquire the car, players need to select the 2015 GT Academy special event and get bronze or better in four race events. Once you’ve set a time around the Circuit de la Sarthe in the last event, the GT-R LM is yours to play with forever.

This is a great opportunity to get a feel for a race car that motorsport fans are eager to see prove itself, due to its unique layout. Traditionally, cars of this racing category tend to be either rear or all-wheel drive, but Nissan opted for a front-engined, front-wheel drive arrangement, which they believe will give them an edge during the legendary endurance race.

For starters, the putting the 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine up front with the driving wheels gave Nissan some more leeway in the car’s aerodynamic design. This approach netted the GT-R LM the fastest overall time through the speed trap during the test day held last Sunday. They also believe this setup will be more fuel efficient, which is a key factor in endurance racing.

Nissan and Gran Turismo have a storied history. For one, Polyphony Digital, makers of the series, designed the GUI of Nissan’s GT-R sports car: All the menus in the car are nearly identical to the ones in the game. Secondly, the GT Academy, which takes players into the game and puts the best drivers into actual race cars, is the source of the GT-R LM’s driver line-up. Yup, three of the drivers in Le Mans started out just being really, really good at a video game. Yet another reason to log on and get racing.

Gran Turismo 7: Best tuning settings and cars for Sport Mode
A driver stands next to his yellow sports car in Gran Turismo 7.

Gran Turismo 7 has two schools of multiplayer to consider. Racers tired of competing against A.I. can head down to the multiplayer pavilion in the lower right corner of the over-world map. Alternatively, drivers looking for more competitive action can opt for Sport Mode. In this ranked multiplayer mode, carried over from Gran Turismo: Sport, players compete in daily races to increase their driver ranking (DR). However, they'll need to know the best tuning settings for Sport Mode if they want to win (or even place) in daily races.

Each daily race (A, B, or C) comes with certain restrictions on weight and horsepower. However, with so many cars to choose from, only hindered by horsepower (HP) and weight requirements, how can racers still get a competitive edge? This guide will go over a few essential tips surrounding the best tuning settings for Sport Mode. We'll also dive into what upgrades you need to buy and how to know which cars are best, or "meta," if you will.

The best starting cars in Gran Turismo 7
Three American muscle cars line up against a dark background.

You won't be whipping around turns in Corvettes and Lamborghinis early on in Gran Turismo 7. Instead, you're given a limited number of used cars to choose from -- cars your parents probably picked you up from school in. While you're free to upgrade these low-PP cars to give them a little more horsepower, there are several ways to unlock better cars early in Gran Turismo 7. What if we told you there's a way to unlock some of the best cars in the game before you ever touch the World Circuit races?

Now, "the best cars" in a game like Gran Turismo 7 are left up to personal preference. For now, there's no necessary "meta" car to use in World Circuits or online. Furthermore, different races come with certain restrictions, making the "best car" in the European campaign useless in the United States. To get the most out of the early game, players need a set of rides to switch between depending on where they're racing. Here are the best starting cars in Gran Turismo 7 and how to unlock them.

Gran Turismo 7: Tips and tricks to race like a pro
Two cars race around a bend in Gran Turismo 7.

Fans have held the Gran Turismo series in high regard for the past two decades. Now, on its 25th anniversary, Gran Turismo 7 delivers a visually stunning racing sim accessible to anyone willing to spend a few extra minutes digesting the finer details of cornering, split streaming, and proper braking. However, newcomers expecting to drift right out of Need For Speed and into Gran Turismo 7 are in for a heavy dose of realism. While the game isn't a hyper-sim like the F1 series or MotoGP, plenty of nuanced mechanics pop up around every hairpin, and players must know how to handle them.

Gran Turismo 7 presents players with enough challenges to feel rewarded without being too hard, from proper cornering techniques to knowing when to ease on and off the throttle. If you need a more relaxing break from the high-octane world of Elden Ring, hop behind the wheel of your favorite sports car and explore the vibrant world of Gran Turismo 7.
