Walmart is offering Google Home starter kits for under $50

With so many different smart home sales going on this holiday season, it can be easy to go overboard with your purchases. Amazon has led the pack with smart security systems, video doorbells, and Amazon Echo devices — offering great prices for anyone wanting to go all out. Though these large smart home bundles are quite impressive, they aren’t that helpful for shoppers only looking for the essentials. Which is why Walmart is offering steep discounts on the only Google Home products you really need.

If you’re hoping to save big on Google Home devices before the holiday deals come to an end, there’s no better time than right now. These starter bundles work great as Christmas gifts for parents, or pretty much anyone looking to get their smart home started — with the added benefit of being gentle on your wallet.

This smart home bundle is for those who love to stream. For under $50, you get a Google Home Mini (comparable to the Echo Dot) and a Chromecast. These two items combined will allow you to stream your favorite shows, browse Netflix, or navigate Hulu with ease. You will also get full access to Google Smart Assistant for pretty much everything else. Though the Google Home Mini is small, it still works great as a Bluetooth speaker and can answer just about any question you could think of.

Normally priced at $74 when you purchase the items separately, this Google Home bundle is down to just $49 for a limited time.

This slightly more affordable smart home bundle is for anyone only looking for some minor integration within their home. For just $35, you get a Google Home Mini and a smart light bulb. This is great for apartments, living rooms, and anyone who hates getting up to turn a light on. All you need to do is plug in the smart bulb and Google Home Assistant will be able to adjust the lighting with simple voice commands.

Normally priced at $55, this smart lighting kit down to just $35 from Walmart right now.

Google Home Mini (2-Pack) — $50

Smart home integration only works well if you have a smart speaker within earshot at any given time. If you only have a Google Home device in your living room, you’re going to have a hard time interacting with it from a different room. Which is why you need more than one Google Home Mini if you’re house or apartment is larger than just a single living space.

Normally priced at $78, this 2-pack of Google Home devices is available for only $50 at Walmart.

Google’s Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, and Nest Home speaker arrive on September 30
Google Pixel 4a Front

Unlike the rest of the tech industry, which has largely been on time, if not a little late this year, it looks like Google is holding its annual hardware event a little early. The company announced a livestream hardware event for September 30 at 11 a.m. PT. Usually, Google holds its Pixel hardware events in mid-October.

Google isn't leaving much up to the imagination either. Its invitation spells out that the event will be where we learn more about the "new Chromecast, our latest smart speaker and our new Pixel phones." Of course, we pretty much knew what was coming anyway -- most of the new hardware has leaked ahead of time, and Google even announced that the Pixel 5 was on the way, along with a few press images, when it launched the Pixel 4a.

New leaks offer the best look at Google’s Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) phones
Google Pixel 5 render leak

Earlier this week, alongside launching the Pixel 4a, Google teased a pair of upcoming phones: The Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 it plans to launch later in the fall. Now, a series of leaks have revealed just about every detail you need to know about these devices.

A report by Steve Hemmestoffer (@OnLeaks), who has a reliable track record, offers the best look (in collaboration with Indian outlets, 91Mobiles and Pricebaba) at the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 through a bunch of high-resolution renders. Both the phones share a similar, minimalistic design that can be found on the recently announced Pixel 4a as well. There’s a nearly edge-to-edge screen on the front with a tiny cutout for the selfie camera and a square-ish camera housing on the back.

Alexa vs. Google Assistant vs. HomeKit: Which smart home platform to choose?
alexa vs google assistant homekit siri

The smart home world is dominated by three main options: Amazon, Google, and Apple. (Sorry, Bixby and Cortana, you aren’t part of this race.) Not all devices work across all platforms, and as more people invest in smart home technology and take advantage of sales, it can be hard to find a single platform that meets all of your needs.

Amazon, Google, and Apple all have different strengths. Depending on your needs and what you want your smart home platform to do, you may prefer one platform over another. This guide will examine the pros and cons of each platform, their product support, the ease of installation, and other aspects worth considering.
