Alan Wake gets an AMC show, Switch port, and sequel update

Remedy Entertainment released a heap of Alan Wake news today, in celebration of the series’ 12th anniversary. For starters, Alan Wake Remastered will come to Nintendo Switch later in 2022. In addition, the studio has announced a partnership with AMC for the Alan Wake TV show, and revealed that it will not be releasing a trailer for Alan Wake 2 this summer.

Alan Wake Remastered — which launched for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2021 — is in development for Nintendo Switch and will launch digitally for the platform in fall 2022. Remedy explains the game will run on the console natively (as opposed to via the cloud). The company said it will provide an update on the Switch version “in the coming months.”

When Alan Wake 2 was announced in December 2021, Remedy confirmed it would show more of the upcoming game during the summer of 2022, providing an update on its development. However, the company will no longer publish a trailer or demo for the forthcoming sequel this summer, explaining that it needs more time to get it right.

“Everything with Alan Wake 2 development is going really well,” said Creative Director Sam Lake. “To create a proper, polished demo or a trailer takes a lot of effort, and it’s several months of work that could take away from development,” Lake added. It’s unclear when the developer will show off more of Alan Wake 2, but it’s possible we’ll see more by the end of the year.

Finally, Remedy provided an update in regards to the upcoming Alan Wake TV show, announcing a partnership with AMC Network. The network — best known for Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead — has acquired the rights to the Alan Wake TV series. “There’s still a long way to go for the series to become a reality, but we are excited, to say the least, about this latest development,” Remedy said.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is getting a miracle Switch port this summer

Over the years, a lot of impressive native Nintendo Switch ports have happened. Games like Doom, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Alien: Isolation all seem like they shouldn't run that well on the console, but do. With the hybrid console's more powerful successor on the horizon, only a few of these kinds of ports are probably left. Today, we learned that one of those will be Bandai Namco Entertainment's Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, which will come to the system on July 11.

First released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2019, this exhilarating combat flight sim is coming to Nintendo Switch as Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Deluxe Edition. There currently aren't many flight sims like this on Nintendo Switch, likely due to how graphically intensive the game's full 360-degree aerial battles can get. As such, it'll be quite impressive if Bandai Namco Entertainment manages to get Ace Combat 7 up and running smoothly on the Switch, which isn't as powerful as the consoles the game initially released for.

Alan Wake is coming to Dead by Daylight later this month

Behaviour Interactive announced today that multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight will cross over with Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake later this month.

Alan Wake is just the latest of several crossover characters to come by Dead by Daylight. Just last year, the multiplayer horror game crossed over with franchises like Alien and Child's Play; Nicolas Cage also came to the game as a survivor. This Alan Wake crossover feels particularly timely, as Alan Wake 2 launched in October 2023 to critical acclaim, bringing Remedy Entertainment's cult classic horror franchise into the mainstream.

James McCaffrey, an actor best known for his work with Remedy Entertainment on video game series like Max Payne and Alan Wake, has died.

TMZ revealed the 65-year-old actor died on Sunday from multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. "We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our beloved friend and collaborator James McCaffrey, the iconic voice of Max Payne and Alex Casey," Remedy Entertainment posted on its official X account. "His remarkable talent gave life to our characters and left an enduring impact on our community. Our hearts go out to his family."
