Apple Vision Pro is getting three ‘spatial games’ including Fruit Ninja

The Apple Vision Pro will get three “spatial games” when it launches on February 2. Game Room, Super Fruit Ninja, and Apple Arcade standout What the Golf? will all launch on the platform, though Apple hasn’t shared many details about them yet.

Previously, Apple had been underplaying the role of gaming on its new headset. We knew it would be able to access Apple Arcade games and other apps, playing them on a flat screen inside the headset, but it didn’t seem like it had any new gaming component. The launch announcement revealed that Apple is, in fact, creating some games for the device that’ll take advantage of the tech.

Details on all three games are sparse, as they’re all namedropped in the announcement as upcoming games. Apple says these titles will “take advantage of the powerful capabilities of Apple Vision Pro to transform the space around players, offering unique and engaging gameplay experiences.”

Of the three new games, Game Room is a total mystery, with Apple sharing no details on the title. Super Fruit Ninja sounds self-explanatory, as it’s reasonable to assume that it will be a variation on the popular mobile title Fruit Ninja. More exciting is that the Vision Pro will get a new version of What the Golf?, a comedic sports game among Apple Arcade’s best games. It’s currently unclear if the Vision Pro version is a new version of the game or a mode added to the current app.

Apple hasn’t yet shared exactly how Vision Pro users will access those games. Digital Trends has reached out to Apple to clarify if they’ll require an Apple Arcade subscription or be available as separate apps. We’ve also asked for clarification on each game’s release date.

Apple Arcade is getting Shovel Knight Dig and a Tom Hanks trivia game
shovel knight dig apple arcade higher resolution

Apple has announced that Yacht Club Games' Shovel Knight Dig is coming to Apple Arcade next month. The service is getting another curious title in September too: a trivia game made by Tom Hanks.

Shovel Knight Dig is a puzzle game in the same vein as last year's excellent Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, and is the first in the 2D side-scrolling rogue-lite series to have high color pixels and sound. In the game, the titular knight goes after Drill Knight and his digging crew after they blow up his peaceful campsite and steal his loot. Shovel Knight has to dig his way underground with his Shovel Blade -- hence, the title -- in order to get his loot back and stop Drill Knight and his henchmen while preventing the land above from collapsing underfoot.

Valve takes stern stance on season passes and DLC in new guidelines
The Steam Deck OLED on a pink background.

Valve is taking a stance against season passes on Steam, implementing new guidelines for developers that'll force them to be clearer about what's in season passes and offer refunds if those plans change.

"If you aren't ready to clearly communicate about the content included in each DLC AND when each DLC will be ready for launch, you shouldn't offer a Season Pass on Steam," Valve wrote in the documentation.

There’s a horrific beauty in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s bugs
A mutant with a split jaw screams in Stalker 2.

I was still getting my bearings in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl as I searched an abandoned building in the dead of night. Using my pitifully dim flashlight to scan the faded walls and floors, I hit a dead end and turned to retrace my steps back outside and onto the critical path. That's when I saw something curious: A box was falling from nowhere in particular to the ground. I noted that the room was littered with boxes and other refuse upon entering, but they were all scattered on the floor. Seeing one falling for apparently no reason startled me, but I calmed myself thinking it was a simple physics bug that crops up fairly often in giant open-world games such as this. Stalker 2 already had a reputation for being buggy, after all.

Not five minutes later my expectations flipped on their head when I watched a can lift itself off a table, hover for just a moment as if to mock my previous assumption, and then hurl itself at me and knock out a chunk of my health. That was not a bug despite it appearing exactly like one I had encountered in many games prior. This was an invisible enemy known as a Poltergeist whose invisible nature and method of attack mimicked what a typical bug looked like. Suddenly, I had to question my instincts whenever I came across something unexplainable. I couldn't take anything for granted and that distrust in myself added a new layer of horror.
