Cyberpunk 2077’s current gen update is out now

In a lengthy stream detailing a suite of improvements coming to Cyberpunk 2077, developer CD Projekt Red announced that the game’s current-gen update is available today.

Cyberpunk 2077 — Next-Gen Gameplay | PlayStation 5

With the arrival of the game’s 1.5 patch, players on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S can finally use all of their hardware’s power. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, Cyberpunk 2077 will get two fidelity options: Performance and ray tracing. Performance lets the game run at 60 frames per second (fps) “with small and rare frame drops.” while the ray tracing option enhances local shadows but limits the frame rate to 30 fps. Regardless of which option players choose, the game will be run at 4K, as long as it’s being displayed on a compatible TV.

Potentially bigger than an update for current-gen consoles is the bevy of new content and general improvements coming to Cyberpunk 2077 with the game’s 1.5 update. The game now boasts a number of quality-of-life features and tweaks that many expected would be present when it first launched. For instance, after downloading the patch, players will be able to change their character’s appearance at any time via the mirror in V’s apartment. nonplayable characters will also react appropriately to combat or being threatened, with some fighting back against players if a gun is aimed at them. Cyberpunk 2077‘s perk tree has also been completely revamped, with some perks being removed entirely while others have been improved.

That all pales in comparison to simply being able to reject calls in Cyberpunk 2077, which would previously flood players with a nonstop stream of requests from NPCs.

In terms of new content, players will be able to purchase new apartments and weapons after downloading the game’s 1.5 update. Four new apartments will be available, each of which is scattered across Night City and can be renovated. Interacting with certain things in V’s apartment, like the shower or bed, will now give them temporary buffs as well.

While the update, which comes in at a whopping 50GB, is available now, anyone who doesn’t have the game can also give it a try. Cyberpunk 2077 now has a five-hour-long free trial on current-gen consoles. After the trial runs out, players can purchase the game and continue playing from where they left off in the demo.

The best video games of September 2023: Starfield, Cyberpunk, and more
Key art for Starfield.

If you had any doubts before, it’s now clear that the flurry of fall video game releases is finally upon us. September 2023 was full of very notable and long-awaited games -- it was nearly impossible to keep up with it all. That momentum isn’t slowing down as we head into a busy October and November. That's bad news for your backlog, but at least there's no shortage of great games to catch up on.

From expansive RPGs to experimental indies, there were loads of high-quality games this month that spanned genres. To help you sort through the mass of titles, here are seven that stood out most to us this month. I’d recommend you check at least some of them out while you still have time because we're in for a very busy October.

All new weapons in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC
Two gangsters looking at a row of guns on the floor.

CD Projekt Red is known for adding tons of content any time it releases an expansion to one of its games, and Phantom Liberty is certainly no exception. The biggest addition is obviously the entire new zone called Dogtown and the storyline it contains, but there are plenty of other additions that add even more reasons to take a trip back to Night City. Aside from the new Relic skill tree to experiment with, there are a handful of new guns you can get your hands on and test out against the improved enemy AI. These new guns are mixed in with all the rest, so if you're jumping back into the game after a while, you might not recognize them. Here are all the new weapons introduced in the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Every new gun in Phantom Liberty
Grit - Auto Pistol
Looking like a smaller, yellow UZi, the Grit is a rapid-firing pistol with a huge clip.
Hercules - Special
The only special weapon introduced is the Hercules. Considering special weapons are always a treat to find, we'll leave this gun's function a secret for you to discover yourself.
Order - Shotgun
Looking like a Frankenstein's monster of a shotgun, the Order is an illegal double barrel that doesn't play around.
Osprey - Sniper
This sniper comes with a massive clip and bulky design that indicates just how much punch each shot will pack.
Rasetsu - Sniper
A more sleek sniper, the Rasetsu also can use a mounting attachment to pull off tough shots.
Thermal Katana - Melee
While you can't get a lightsaber in Phantom Liberty, this burning blade is the second-best thing.
Warden - SMG
Like the big brother of the Grit, this yellow SMG is also illegal and built for an insane rate of fire.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Relic guide
Songbird in a dress in Phantom Liberty.

The first and only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 has far more than just a new area and missions to fill your time. Phantom Liberty is part of the 2.0 update that almost completely overhauls the systems introduced in the base game to be more in line with the original vision, It also adds new mechanics to flesh out the experience even further. Once you start the expansion, the first thing you will probably notice is the completely revamped skill system, which now includes a brand new tree called the Relic tree. These skills are all brand new, and alone could be reason enough to start a fresh adventure in Night City. But these Relic skills don't function like the other skills where you simply need to level up to unlock and upgrade them. Don't worry, Samurai, we'll transfer all the data you need on how to get Relic skills and what each of them does.
How to get Relic points
The new Relic skill tree is the only new feature in terms of skills that you need to purchase the Phantom Liberty expansion to access. Once you begin the expansion, the tree and a few starting points will be given to you automatically from a new character. To get more Relic points, you have to track down a new feature called Militech Data Terminals rather than simply leveling up. These points will only pop up on your map once you're close to them, so you will need to search them out for the most part.
All Relic skills

The Relic skill tree is broken down into three branches: Jailbreak, Emergency Cloaking, and Vulnerability. Just like any normal skill tree, you need to unlock each skill in order to gain access to the next one, so planning out which branch you want to invest in before spending your precious points is vital, especially since some trees have many more levels to them than others. Here's what each branch gives you:
Jailbreak
Jailbreak: Unlocks new abilities for your Arm Cyberwear, including the Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Projectile Launch System, and Monowire.
