Dead Space remake livestream confirms 2023 release plan

Motive Studio provided some fresh updates about its upcoming Dead Space remake during a developer livestream today. It included confirmation that the game is targeted for an early 2023 launch.

Dead Space | The Sound of Fear Reimagined | Audio Developer Livestream

Released in 2008, Dead Space ranks among the best horror games of all time, and while much of that is attributed to its eerie environments and unsettling visuals, Motive Studio has acknowledged that audio played a major part as well. The livestream focused primarily on this, showcasing the various ways in which the team is fully embracing 3D audio and using improved technology to help sound travel more realistically through environments. Much like the studio’s choice to keep the overall aesthetic and gameplay flow nearly identical to the first outing, its goal is to “always use the existing foundation and predefined soundscape but build on it.”

The livestream finally offered the first opportunity to see and hear the game’s classic Plasma Cutter weapon in action, as well as a sneak peak at the Pulse Rifle. The team has added a lot of audio layers to both weapons to improve upon what made them so beloved in the first place, giving every shot fired a deeper and more powerful sound than could have ever been achieved on older hardware. Main character Isaac Clarke has also received a variety of upgrades to his audio design, most notably in how the sound of his breathing and heartbeat now more realistically respond to exertion, fear, and injury.

Lastly, we received a brief gameplay snippet to show off the overall progress Motive Studio has made. During the clip, Isaac explored a dark and foggy Maintenance Bay where he was ambushed by a necromorph and forced into a tense close-quarters encounter. It stopped short of showing much beyond that, but we’re sure to see even more when the next developer livestream airs at some point in May. For now, though, things appear to be shaping up rather well for the highly anticipated remake.

Dead Space has recently joined the growing list of games delayed this year. It’s now expected to release in 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The game will get another livestream in May focusing on the remake’s art design.

Shattered Space is Starfield at its very best and worst
The players moves towards a glowing objects in zero gravity in Starfield: Shattered Space.

While I had put around 25 hours into Starfield after it launched last September, I hadn't revisited Bethesda's ambitious sci-fi RPG in about a year. When the Shattered Space expansion was released on Monday, I was excited to finally have a worthwhile reason to jump back in and reassess the game. I was happy to discover that Shattered Space leans into some of the best aspects of Starfield, namely very handcrafted content, even if this expansion can't escape the rocky foundation that it feels like this RPG has lived on.

The gaming community has not been nearly as kind to Starfield as it was to previous Bethesda RPGs like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. The base game's overreliance on procedural generation and lack of polish are to blame. If the former was your biggest problem, then you might actually enjoy a lot of Shattered Space. If the latter bothered you more, Shattered Space won't do anything to win you back. I'm glad I returned to Bethesda's sci-fi universe one more time, but I'm not sure I'll stick around.
Starfield, one year later
Jumping right into Shattered Space's storyline is quite the cold plunge if you've been out of the loop for a while. This expansion focuses on the religious House Va'ruun faction and the lore that comes with it. The names and references to events that took place centuries before the events of Starfield's story were a lot to take in at first, but after a while, I settled in and found myself enjoying this DLC's tale. That was thanks to some core strengths that Starfield has always had.

Ghost of Yotei: release date window, trailers, gameplay, and more
A samurai stares at a mountain.

Ghost of Tsushima was an outstanding game to end the PS4 generation with. Sucker Punch chose to pivot to a new IP far divorced from its past Infamous or Sly Cooper games and focus on a more grounded and historically influenced game about the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima. Naturally, we all expected a continuation of the story since that was just one small component of that conflict. Indeed we will get another entry, but not in the way we all expected. Ghost of Yotei has been revealed and is making some big changes, but also holding true to what Sucker Punch believes to be the core of the series. Let's follow the wind together to find out all we can about this upcoming PS5 game.
Release date window

For now, all we know is that Ghost of Yotei is expected to come out at some point in 2025. Considering the game has no specific window, we would predict this means it is likely coming in the second half of the year and likely be PlayStation's big fall or winter release. Once we know more, we will update you.
