Anime-based one-on-one fighter Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden will launch for the Nintendo 3DS in North America and other western territories later this year, publisher Bandai Namco confirmed today.

Developed by Guilty Gear and BlazBlue creator Arc System Works, Extreme Butoden brings together a broad selection of golden-haired warriors for a massively destructive 2D fight to the finish. The game features over 20 playable fighters, along with dozens more characters plucked from the Dragon Ball universe who will serve a supplemental role in battle.

Extreme Butoden follows up on 2011’s Japan-exclusive brawler Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butoden for the Nintendo DS. Though many Dragon Ball games have been localized and released stateside over the last several years, Ultimate Butoden was passed over for a western release.

Other recent Dragon Ball games include the fighting game compilation Dragon Ball Z: Budokai HD Collection, online multiplayer-enabled brawler Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, and this year’s Dragon Ball: Xenoverse for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC platforms. An oddball spinoff game for the Xbox 360’s Kinect peripheral premiered in 2012, allowing players to mimic physical movements from the animated series in order to fight in-game enemies.

Dragon Ball is a long-running anime and manga series, spawning video game adaptations as far back as the 8-bit NES era. The upcoming Dragon Ball Super marks the first time a new animated Dragon Ball series has entered production in 18 years. The first episode of Dragon Ball Super is scheduled to air in Japan on July 5.

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden will launch in North America at retail and via the Nintendo 3DS eShop on October 11. In the meantime expect it to just be standing around somewhere clenching, yelling, and glowing ever-brighter for a while as we focus on Bulma’s B story.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers needs to give its survivors a break
dragon ball breakers balancing issues db raider wins

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is Bandai Namco’s upcoming survival multiplayer game set in the Dragon Ball universe. Dead by Daylight fans might recognize the premise: Eight human survivors must summon the Super Time Machine using five Power Keys scattered across the map, all while fending off an all-powerful Raider.

It's a fun premise, but judging from the beta, the game needs to give survivors more of an edge to balance the two sides.
Strive to survive
Survivors have been sucked through a temporal seam and trapped with the Raider. Ideally, this means cooperating to escape. Players can win if they escape on the Super Time Machine, with or without their teammates. However, survivors don’t win as a team unless all of them make it out alive. The Raider wins if they stop even one survivor from escaping. It’s possible for multiple players and the Raider to win, while the survivors who fail to escape simultaneously lose.
