Fortnite’s new Among Us-esque Impostors mode is sus

Fortnite introduced a new game mode to the fray today that pulls players out of the battle royale mode and into familiar territory. The new game mode is called “Impostors,” a very tongue-in-cheek name considering the mode’s similarities to indie deduction hit Among Us.

Trust Nobody: Introducing Fortnite Impostors

Impostors is a new mode available in Fortnite where players are tasked with completing various assignments, such as repairing the Battle Bus and calibrating llamas. They’re up against Impostors that must hide their identities, sabotage tasks, and eliminate everyone on board to win.

When players notice anyone is eliminated, they’re able to start a discussion in the center room where they can discuss any suspicions of who is an Impostor. The discussions happen using a combination of quick chat and emotes, which allows players to literally point their fingers at the guilty party. Once a decision is made, they can vote people off. When all the Impostors are voted off, the crewmates win.

If it sounds familiar, it’s because it is a one-to-one replica of Among Us, a game that took the world by storm during the COVID-19 pandemic’s lockdown. It’s very ironic seeing a trendy game like Fortnite copy another trendsetter like Among Us, though it’s not unheard of. Many players have created similar modes, but this is just the first time we’ve seen anything like this straight from Epic itself.

You can play Impostors for starting today in Fortnite.

Fortnite’s new ranked mode is great, unless you’re a Zero Build fan

After what feels like years of players asking for a ranked mode in Fortnite, Epic AGmes finally delivered. Ranked play is now available in the battle royale game, but there is currently one issue putting a dark cloud over what should be an exciting update -- especially if you happen to be a Zero Build mode player.

10 years ago, Injustice: Gods Among Us told the definitive ‘evil Superman’ story
Superman fights Solomon Grundy in Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The question of “What if someone with the powers of Superman was evil?” has become something of a cliché in the last decade. From the horror movie Brightburn to Homelander in The Boys, and even DC’s cinematic universe and the upcoming (and recently delayed) game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, many stories have asked that question. It's a video game, though, that perhaps most definitively grapples with the topic. A decade after its release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U, Injustice: Gods Among Us still stands as the definitive evil Superman story.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a mechanically solid fighting game that’s still enjoyable to play today, but a decade later, its story is what I remember most. It features a believable Superman heel turn, giving us a greater understanding of what makes the caped do-gooder a compelling character while also telling a tragic DC Elseworlds story about how trauma can impact a person.
What makes an evil Superman story work
NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice: Gods Among Us takes place in a world where The Joker tricks Superman into killing a pregnant Lois Lane with toxic fear gas, which in turn causes a nuclear bomb to destroy Metropolis. This causes Superman to snap, kill The Joker, and become a world-ruling dictator who only becomesmore and more crazed over time. One particularly poignant scene that sticks with me is when Batman tries to empathize with Superman about having lost loved ones too, only for Superman’s response to be: “But you weren’t the gun.”

A free Among Us clone about geese is currently blowing up on Steam
A mallard kills a goose in Goose Goose Duck.

The latest indie viral success on Steam is Goose Goose Duck, a free-to-play Among Us clone about geese trying to avoid being murdered by a couple of ducks in their midst. At the time of this writing, over 457,000 people were playing the game on Steam.
Goose Goose Duck: Gameplay Trailer 2022
As was the case with Among Us, Goose Goose Duck's viral success comes a while after launching, as Gaggle Studios' title first launched in 2021. V, a member of South Korean boy band BTS, started playing Goose Goose Duck late last year, and its player base has skyrocketed as the game caught on in Korea, China, and now, the U.S. Following a long string of games like Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Among Us, and Wordle, it looks like Goose Goose Duck is gaming's next viral hit.
But is it any good?

On the surface, Goose Goose Duck is a pretty blatant Among Us clone. It's a social deduction game where players must complete tasks around a map while some other players are actually trying to kill those other players but blend in well enough not to be voted out. I played a couple of matches after hearing about its virality, and while it's a good time, the only things that really stand out about it over Among Us to me is how players draft subroles ahead of every match to get unique abilities and the mode variety.
Still, as a free-to-play Steam game with over seven maps and even more modes for those looking for something a little more different than Among Us, I can see how this game could go viral after a well-known celebrity frequently streams it. Plus, Untitled Goose Game had already demonstrated that you could never go wrong with putting geese front and center of your game.
Now, we'll just have to see if Goose Goose Duck continues to grow in popularity outside of Asi,a or if it's just the earliest gaming fad of 2023. Still, don't be surprised to see Goose Goose Duck more and more in the coming weeks.
