The proposed reboot of the Terminator franchise is moving forward, and you can add one more name to the cast. Game of Thrones actor Emilia Clarke has officially been cast as Sarah Connor, according to Deadline.
Clarke, who plays the mother of dragons Daenerys Targaryen, will likely join Jason Clarke (no relation) and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Thanks to the heavy time travel themes, the 26-year old Clarke will play the mother of the 44-year old Jason Clarke as John Connor, who is reportedly still in negotiations.
Schwarzenegger’s role, on the other hand, is being kept quiet. Some rumors hint at the former Terminator will appear as the man that the early human-looking terminators were modeled on. That’s unconfirmed, but with Schwarzenegger approaching 70 (he will be 68 when the film is released), it seems like a possibility. On the other hand, thanks to CGI and enhanced makeup techniques, he may reappear as a terminator.
At the moment there isn’t much more to say about the story. A plot synopsis has not been released yet, but it is assumed that this will be a reboot of the series.
According to the report, the choice was between Clarke and Brie Larson. Clarke’s casting will reunite her with director Alan Taylor, fresh off his victory lap as director of Thor: The Dark World. Prior joining the Marvel empire, Taylor directed six episodes of Game of Thrones. In a twist fans of Game of Thrones may appreciate, Clarke will recreate the role that Lena Headey – who now appears in Game of Thrones as Cersei Lannister – held for two season in the Terminator TV show, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Terminator: Genesis (assuming that remains the title), will hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
