Genshin Impact comes to Epic Games Store this month

Free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact is headed to Epic Games Store on June 9, as revealed by the game’s official Twitter account today. It was previously already available on PC via the Genshin Impact website, as well as mobile devices, PS4, and PS5.

Epic Games Store users will get a “special gift” by using the redemption code GenshinEpic, as an incentive to hop aboard on that platform. This Epic version will feature cross-play, so players will be able to play with one another regardless of platform.

Genshin Impact took the industry by storm in 2020, after coming to PS4 and mobile devices. Fans fell in love with its open world, action gameplay, and “gacha” elements. Despite being free, the game’s developer miHoYo implemented a monetization tactic known as a “gacha” mechanic. This allows players to spend real money in-game to acquire a random set of characters, cosmetics, and items. This keeps players coming back and incentivizes them to spend money.

Since its launch, it managed to gross $60 million after only one week on the market. As of October 2020, it was the highest-grossing game of the month, with most of its generated revenue coming from Japan, China, and the United States. As of March 2021, Genshin Impact grossed over $1 billion.

Genshin Impact recently launched for PS5, which features faster load times and 4K support. It’s also planned to launch for Nintendo Switch, though its release date has yet to be announced. To hold players over until then, miHoYo will update the game with content drops that feature extra rewards and gear to unlock in-game.

Is Zenless Zone Zero cross-platform?
The cast of Zenless Zone Zero poses.

The latest free-to-play RPG from HoYoverse is upon us, but has a vastly different look than Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail. Zenless Zone Zero embraces a more cyberpunk style but is just as action-packed and full of flashy new character designs. Each game has explored multiplayer in new ways, with this latest game allowing players more direct interaction than ever with a complete co-op mode. However, being on PlayStation, mobile, and PC, you never know how cross-platform support will work on such different systems. There's no reason to not give this game a shot, but do you need to worry about which platform you start on if you want to play with friends or carry over your progress? Here's the answer.
Does Zenless Zone Zero have cross-platform support?
Yes, Zenless Zone Zero has full cross-platform support. Crossplay will apply to all players on PlayStation, iOS, Android, and PC so you never have to worry about which system you or your friends are on.

Being available on so many platforms, it is also a seamless process to transfer your progress via cross-progression. After you make your account on one platform, you can easily log in on another to continue your fight wherever you are. That's all as expected for a HoYoverse title, but it's nice to know it is confirmed for Zenless Zone Zero as well.

PS Plus’ next batch of monthly games includes a viral multiplayer hit
A still from the Among Us animated series.

Sony revealed the three games PS Plus Essential subscribers can expect to get for no additional cost this July. The highlight of the month is Among Us, a popular social deduction multiplayer game that has stayed popular since it went viral in 2020. Borderlands 3 and NHL 24 aren't too shabby either.

You've probably at least heard of Among Us by now. It's a social deduction game where groups of crewmates must work to complete various tasks on a map and avoid being secretly killed by an imposter among them. Among Us is an engine for furious debates, backstabbing, and memorable multiplayer moments. It became a viral sensation in 2020, as people were looking for a multiplayer game like this during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly four years later, Among Us is still a ton of fun and is even getting a TV series.

How did multiple unannounced games leak through the Epic Games Store?
Final Fantasy 16's cover showcasing its protagonist infront of two demon summons.

In an event not seen since numerous video games leaked through Nvidia GeForce Now, a third-party tool accidentally exposed a bunch of listings on the Epic Games Store. A website called EpicDB featured public pages for a bunch of unannounced titles from Square Enix, Sony, Sega, Saber Interactive, and many other publishers.

While a lot of what people found were codenames Tuesday night, going through the metadata and looking at related files revealed a lot about what they could actually be. The story is a bit confusing, so let's break down exactly what went down, what games leaked, and what steps Epic is already taking to prevent it from happening again.
So, what happened?
EpicDB is an Epic Games Store equivalent of SteamDB, an unofficial database of everything on the digital games platform. Valve doesn't publicly release sales data, but you can glean a lot from SteamDB's charts and lists, which provide a more detailed view of how games are doing on Steam. It's a great way to see if player count is spiking, what has been wishlisted the most, and how games do over multiple years.
