Netflix and Rockstar Games revealed that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will come to the services game catalog in December.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is a package that features remasters of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It was first released for PC and consoles in late 2021. Although the ports were derided for having a plethora of technical problems at launch, they have improved since then. Now, Netflix is making a major play by bringing these remastered GTA games to the service around the same time a Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer is expected to drop.

Starting on December 14, anyone with a Netflix subscription on iOS or Android can play the mobile ports of the remastered GTA games. Axios’ Stephen Totilo confirmed that these versions of the game will feature touchscreen controls. That said, they will still be playable with a controller and are expected to have all the same features as visual updates as the PC and console versions of the games.

Recently, Netflix has put much effort into diversifying its subscription offerings, including adding mobile games that will eventually be playable via the cloud to its subscription service. It has netted some fun original games like Poinpy and quality ports of games like Dead Cells but has failed to gain that much notoriety. These GTA remasters are bound to be the most important games to hit the service yet.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition comes to iOS and Android via Netflix on December 14.

Grand Theft Auto 5 story DLC was cut due to ‘cash cow’ GTA Online, dev says

Despite us being close to the Grand Theft Auto 6 launch, we're still getting news and anecdotes from Grand Theft Auto 5's development. According to a former Rockstar Games developer, the game was set to get a story DLC, but that it was canceled in favor of GTA Online.

Joe Rubino guested on the SanInPlay YouTube channel, and you can watch the whole interview below. Rubino, who was an editor and did second-unit directing on the DLC, described it as "kickass" and "awesome," but said that the success of GTA Online meant leaders at the company didn't think it was worth investing in both projects. He didn't offer up details on specifics, but said that Trevor actor Steven Ogg was involved.

Grand Theft Auto 6 just got the smallest teaser, but we’ll take what we can get

The line between teaser and Easter egg can be extremely slim, and nowhere has that been apparent on Tuesday than this necklace in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.

A user on the GTA 6 subreddit (via Gamespot) noticed that a necklace that appeared in the game's first trailer is also now available to buy in the recently-released Bottom Dollar Bounties update for Grand Theft Auto Online, which added bail enforcement on June 25. It's called the "Silver Layered Necklace," and, according to one Redditor on the post, it's just one of many assets that seem to have come over to the franchise's online component.

Grand Theft Auto 5 and 11 more games are leaving PS Plus in June
Trevor, Michael, and Franklin are all holding guns in GTA 5 promotional art.

PlayStation Plus users will be losing out on 12 games in June, and one of them is a must-play if you're a fan of open-world action adventures from 2013.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is widely considered to be one of the most iconic games all time, and it's definitely the best Grand Theft Auto game. It's also easy to play on nearly any platform (minus Nintendo Switch, of course). It even received a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. That said, if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription and wanted to play it at some point -- or just wanted to get a session or two in before Grand Theft Auto 6 -- you'll have until June 12 to do so.
