Halo Infinite’s next season will add two new maps

Nearly six months after it launched, Halo Infinite‘s second season is on the way. Officially arriving on May 3, Season 2 of the free-to-play Halo title will add a buffet of changes, all of which have been shared by developer 343 Industries in a large, dense post on Halo Waypoint.

The most immediate changes that players will notice though are likely the two additional maps coming to the game, along with some adjustments to weapon and melee damage that will shift Halo Infinite‘s meta.

Halo Infinite‘s two incoming maps are Catalyst and Breaker. The former is an arena map that will be added to multiple playlists as soon as Halo Infinite‘s second season launches. Breaker, on the other hand, is a Big Team Battle-exclusive map. Catalyst and Breaker mark the first time new maps have been added to Halo Infinite since the game launched this past December.

Along with new maps, Season 2 of Halo Infinite is changing the balance of some weapons, namely the Mangler. The heavy revolver has been a dominant force throughout the game’s first season thanks to its enhanced melee damage, which meant killing an enemy was as simple as smacking them after a single shot. However, a 10% decrease for melee damage across all weapons means that players will have to hit two shots with the Mangler followed by a melee attack to take out an enemy. The Ravager, which most players often ignore thanks to its low DPS, will also be getting a buff to the damage dealt with its non-charged shot.

Season 2 of Halo Infinite will introduce some adjustments to melee as a whole as well, making the entire system of beating down another Spartan much easier. Thanks to some networking adjustments, melee should be much more consistent, with fewer attacks whiffing when they should have connected.

Despite the suite of new content arriving in Halo Infinite‘s second season, it won’t include everything that 343 Industries originally promised. The developer intended for campaign co-op, a fixture of the Halo franchise, to launch alongside the game’s second season, with Forge following in the third. Following a delay, campaign co-op won’t be arriving with Season 2 and will instead launch sometime over the course of the season.

Halo Infinite’s Winter Update is the boost the shooter needed
Two Spartans side by side in Halo Infinite.

It’d be an understatement to say it’s been a rough run for Halo Infinite. The latest in the classically Xbox-centric first-person shooter series, Infinite was released in November 2021 to a steady stream of positive reviews, though its popularity quickly died off due to an unintuitive progression system, a mountain of bugs, and a disappointing lack of fresh content delivered on anything resembling a consistent release schedule.

Instead of becoming one of the quintessential multiplayer games of 2022, Infinite went out silently with no more than a whimper as its concurrent player count fell below that of its predecessor, Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Longtime Halo had fans feared this would be the case, given how Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries handled its predecessor -- the largely middling Halo 5.

The best Halo Infinite Forge maps
Halo Infinite Forge screen.

Forge has finally come to Halo Infinite, allowing players to craft their own PvP maps and share them with others. But this time around, your new capabilities – particularly the grappling hook – mean that Forge maps can be much more creative (and challenging). Of course, others love Forge because they can find their favorite maps from Halos past, now recreated to enjoy again.

Don’t worry – we’ve picked both new and old fan favorites for our list, along with where you can download these Forge maps. Take a look and try them out for your holiday gaming sessions! When you download, note which modes the maps are designed to support, because your PvP options may be limited in some cases.

Battlefield 2042’s new season adds a map set in the developer’s homeland
Soldiers fighting on Battlefield 2042 Season 3 map Spearhead.

EA unveiled everything players can expect from Battlefield 2042 Season 3: Escalation ahead of its November 22 start date. The most notable addition is a brand new map called Spearhead, which is set in Sweden, the homeland of the Battlefield series' main developer, DICE.
Surprisingly, Spearhead is the first Battlefield map set in DICE's home country. The map is centered around two Nordvik manufacturing facilities in the Swedish wilderness, surrounded by very rocky and uneven landscapes. It looks like a map full of interesting terrain that will benefit some vehicles, like the brand-new EMKV90-TOR tank, more than others. Later in Season 3: Escalation, the Manifest map will be reworked to be less cluttered and more tightly designed, while a Breakaway rework will move the Oil Rig to a location much closer to where most action on the map takes place.

Of course, Season 3: Escalation is more than just a new map, battle pass, and some map reworks. A new assault Special named Rasheed Zain is an Egyptian soldier whose legs were amputated after a military accident and replaced with prosthetics. He wields an Airburst launcher and recharges his health very fast after getting a kill, making him great on the front lines of a fight.
The Rorsch MK-4 railgun, the NVK-S22 shotgun, NVK-P125 long-range pistol, the throwing knife, and vault weapons XM8 and A-91 spice things up on the weapons front. EA and DICE also teased that they'll finally start to rework Battlefield 2042's Specialist and Class systems toward the end of the season.
Battlefield 2042 Season 3: Escalation begins on November 22 across all platforms. The game will also be added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate via EA Play on that date. Later, the PS5 version of Battlefield 2042 will be free to try between December 16 and December 23.
