Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes offers better resolution on the PS4

In what will surely further stoke the flames of rivalry between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners, Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will feature a better high-def resolution on the PS4. The Xbox One version will max out at a 720p resolution, while the PS4 will reach 1080p. Konami did not explain the reason for the discrepancy, but promises more comparisons – including video – soon.

Both next-gen systems will, however, run at 60fps. Their current-gen PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 counterparts will run at 30fps though, and both will max out at 720p (scaling internally).

It’s difficult to see a huge difference from the images alone. Thankfully, when it comes to talking about video games and the differences between two systems, the Internet has always been considered a place where reasonable and thoughtful discourse dominates. <Sigh>

Ground Zeroes will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on March 18. The cost will vary from $20 up to $40, based on which platform you get it for and whether you want a digital or physical copy. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will run $20 and $30 for the digital and physical versions, respectively. The next-gen versions will cost $30 and $40, digital vs. physical.

Whether or not the price is worth it is ultimately a decision only the gamer can make, but the length may factor into it. The main storyline, not counting side quests, runs less than two hours. That $40 physical copy for Xbox One with 720p max resolution is looking especially pricey right about now.

Delisted Metal Gear games are returning to digital storefronts
Characters wield guns in Metal Gear Solid 2.

It looks like Konami is going to relist some Metal Gear games onto digital storefronts again after having previously taken them down. The news comes by way of a tweet from the official Metal Gear Twitter account.

"The 'METAL GEAR' series released on July 13, 1987, celebrated its 35th anniversary today," the account tweeted. "We are preparing to resume sales of titles that have been temporarily suspended."

There’s a horrific beauty in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s bugs
A mutant with a split jaw screams in Stalker 2.

I was still getting my bearings in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl as I searched an abandoned building in the dead of night. Using my pitifully dim flashlight to scan the faded walls and floors, I hit a dead end and turned to retrace my steps back outside and onto the critical path. That's when I saw something curious: A box was falling from nowhere in particular to the ground. I noted that the room was littered with boxes and other refuse upon entering, but they were all scattered on the floor. Seeing one falling for apparently no reason startled me, but I calmed myself thinking it was a simple physics bug that crops up fairly often in giant open-world games such as this. Stalker 2 already had a reputation for being buggy, after all.

Not five minutes later my expectations flipped on their head when I watched a can lift itself off a table, hover for just a moment as if to mock my previous assumption, and then hurl itself at me and knock out a chunk of my health. That was not a bug despite it appearing exactly like one I had encountered in many games prior. This was an invisible enemy known as a Poltergeist whose invisible nature and method of attack mimicked what a typical bug looked like. Suddenly, I had to question my instincts whenever I came across something unexplainable. I couldn't take anything for granted and that distrust in myself added a new layer of horror.
