Netflix is building its own internal video game studio in Finland

Netflix has announced that it is building an in-house mobile games studio for Netflix Games in Helsinki, Finland.

Amir Rahimi, Netflix’s VP of Games Studios, said in a press release Monday that Finland is the perfect place for Netflix Games to call home, as it is the birthplace of “some of the best game talent in the world,” such as Angry Birds creator Rovio and Next Games. Netflix acquired the latter studio earlier this year.

The internal games studio will be the fourth studio for Netflix, along with Next Games, Night School Studio, and Boss Fight Entertainment, and it will be led by former Zynga co-founder and manager Marko Lastikka. The company said that each studio will be tasked with developing games catering to different tastes. However, its studio and its games will take some time to build.

“It’s still early days, and we have much more work to do to deliver a great games experience on Netflix,” Rahimi said. “Creating a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our games studios in our first year, and look forward to sharing what we produce in the coming years.”

Netflix Games launched last year in an effort to push into the mobile gaming market. Its games library has more than two dozen titles, including Poinpy, Before Your Eyes, Stranger Things: 1984, This Is A True Story, Into the Breach, and the League of Legends spin-off Hextech Mayhem. It aims to have 50 tiles by the end of the year.

Netflix closes its star-studded AAA studio before it announces a game

Netflix has reportedly shut down its internal studio, referred to as Blue, which was made up of AAA video game industry veterans. The team was never officially announced even one game.

According to a report from Game File, the streaming service giant closed the Southern California studio as of this month. While it was one of many internal Netflix studios working on new titles, Blue stood out thanks to a series of high-profile hires over the past couple years.

Studio behind It Takes Two studio has a new game in the works

The team behind game of the year winner It Takes Two has announced that a new game is in the works in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

According to Electronic Arts, which will be publishing the game under its EA Originals label, it's a brand new IP taking the form of a "totally epic co-op adventure." This puts it in line with Hazelight's previous games: It Takes Two and A Way Out, which were only playable in two-person co-op.

A new Tron game is coming next year, and it’s got Light Cycles

Tron is getting a new video game in 2025, and it will be the first publishing project of Devolver label Big Fan Games. Disney Tron: Catalyst is an isometric action game set in The Grid with an emphasis on narrative, identity disc combat, and light cycling. Digital Trends got a close look at the project in a hands-off demo prior to its reveal, where we learned more details about the project.

Disney Tron: Catalyst is the latest project from Bithell Games, wich previously released the excellent Tron: Identity in 2023. Catalyst is a continuation of that story, but an entirely different kind of game. While Identity was a visual novel detective story, Catalyst is a more traditional action-adventure game with combat that brings Hades to mind.
