European PS Vita owners will soon be able to experience two notable survival horror titles from the past: Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. The games will be downloadable releases that cost £8 each, or just shy of $14 U.S.

Silent Hill: Origins was first released on the PlayStation Portable back in 2007, and then received a PlayStation 2 port the following year. In the game you control protagonist Travis Grady as he searches for a girl he rescued from a burning house after she mysteriously disappears. The deeper into the town you go, the greater the horrors you discover. Origins is a prequel to the original Silent Hill game, first released back in 1999, and it takes place years before the PSone original.

The second game, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was originally released on Nintendo’s Wii in 2009, with PS2 and PSP versions following in 2010. Shattered Memories takes the story of the original game and reimagines it with a new plot. You once again step into the shoes of the original game’s protagonist Harry Mason as he searches the town of Silent Hill for his missing daughter, but events play out differently, with new characters introduced, original characters significantly changed, and a wildly different approach to gameplay.

The PS Vita versions of the games have only been confirmed for Europe at the moment, although a specific release date has not yet been announced. We reached out to Konami regarding a North American release, but did not hear back at the time of this article’s publication.

Silent Hill 2 remake: release date, trailers, gameplay, and more
Pyramid Head walking in the rain.

Rumors about the Silent Hill 2 remake have faded into the fog, and it has become a reality. The classic title is considered by most to be one of the best horror games of all time, and now it is getting a complete remake. Unlike the disappointment that was the HD Collection, the game will be fully re-created from the ground up for modern hardware. Still, with such a beloved game and Konami's troubling track record in recent years, fans may have more concern than excitement about this announcement.

Aside from a new graphical overhaul, remakes can mean many different things. For Silent Hill 2, the question of exactly what will be -- and more importantly, won't be -- changed is on the minds of the dedicated fan base that holds the original in such high esteem. While Konami didn't fully clear the fog on what Silent Hill 2 will be this time around, we turned on our radios, checked every locked door, and managed to come out alive with everything you need to know about the Silent Hill 2 remake.

I was a Silent Hill 2 remake skeptic until I played its first 3 hours
Pyramid Head wields a weapon in Silent Hill 2.

When Konami first announced that it was remaking the horror classic Silent Hill 2, I was an immediate skeptic.

The original game is one of those wholly unique creative visions that just felt impossible to replicate. How could a studio intentionally capture the stilted voice acting or jerky animations of the original, aesthetic decisions that gave that game an off-kilter unease that made it so special? I especially had reservations about The Medium developer Bloober Team taking up that task, as it's a studio whose games have occasionally felt like they were trying a bit too hard to recreate an atmosphere born from PS2-era tech limitations.

The best PS Vita games of all time
PSP

Vita may mean life, but it's clear that the PlayStation Vita is now dead and buried. That wasn't for lack of trying, though. Even when pitted against the best 3DS games, the Vita's impressive library was way ahead of its time. It took what made the PlayStation Portable so great and doubled down on it by making it more powerful, with a better screen and that all-important second analog stick.

There is a lot of crossover between the best PS3 games, best PS4 games, and Vita games since many were cross-platform titles. Still, the Vita had plenty of amazing exclusives to call its own. Even some multiplatform games felt more at home on the handheld. Despite an untimely death, the Vita had some of the best games of all time on it, so let's celebrate the life of the Vita by looking at just some of those games.
