3 new Xbox Game Pass games you should play this weekend (October 4-6)

Sifu's main character at age 70 in Sifu.
Kepler Interactive

Later this month, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will receive its biggest day-one release ever with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Until then, we’ll have to bide the time with other recently added Xbox Game Pass games. Thankfully, multiple games came to Microsoft’s subscription service during Tokyo Game Show in September and one particular highlight just landed this week. If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, these are the games you should be looking for on Xbox Game Pass.

Sifu

Sifu | Sloclap | Night Club Gameplay Teaser | PS4, PS5 & PC

Sloclap’s Sifu is an intense action game with intricate hand-to-hand combat that feels like it could’ve been pulled right out of John Wick or a classic kung fu movie. It’s incredibly satisfying for that reason alone, but Sifu’s most unique hook happens when players die. With each death, players get a little more powerful but age up and lose a bit of health. This gives Sifu a one-of-a-kind difficulty curve because it gets easier and more difficult in different ways with each death. With lots of content and accessibility updates under its belt at this point, you’ll have a fantastic time checking out the complete version of Sifu now if you’ve never played it before. Sifu is available to Game Pass subscribers across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It’s also on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie

We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie - Xbox Game Pass Trailer

Katamari is one of the weirdest and most charming video game series out there; there’s nothing else quite like it. From its quirky narrative starring the King of All Cosmos and Prince to its gameplay that sees players rolling up increasingly bigger balls of objects, these games are full of oddball charm you can’t get anywhere else. We Love Katamari was released for PS2 in 2005 but was remastered last year as We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie, making it easier to play on modern platforms. We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie is available across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. It’s also on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

All You Need is Help

All You Need is Help Launch Trailer

If you’re looking for a weird multiplayer game to play with friends, consider checking out All You Need is Help. This game shadow-dropped into Xbox Game Pass during Microsoft’s Tokyo Game Show live stream and is a multiplayer puzzle game where players control individual tetromino blocks and must work together to fit into certain shapes. You do need a full group of four to get the most out of the experience, but All You Need is Help offers up a kind of simple multiplayer fun that’s getting increasingly uncommon nowadays. The PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming versions of All You Need is Help are available with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. It’s also on PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (October 11-13)
A screenshot from Inscryption.

We're in somewhat of a lull for Xbox Game Pass right now. While Xbox heavily marketed Metaphor: ReFantazio and launched Persona 3 Reload into its subscription service earlier in 2024, Metaphor:ReFantazio is not on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Thankfully, an all-timer of a horror indie game came to the service this past week, just in time for Halloween. Some other great RPGs also arrived during Tokyo Game Show 2024, so you can check those out on Xbox Game Pass if you're looking for something new to play on the subscription service.
Inscryption
Inscryption - Announcement Trailer (2020)

If you're looking for something spookier to play on Xbox Game Pass this month, then Inscryption is the optimal choice. This indie game became critically acclaimed upon its release in 2021 because of how it wasn't afraid to blend genres and break the fourth wall as players try to break out of a card game they're playing in a remote cabin. It's best to go into Inscryption unspoiled, so I'll just recommend you check it out via PC, One Xbox Series X/S, or Xbox Cloud Gaming with your Game Pass Ultimate subscription. It's also on PlayStation 4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

3 new PS Plus games you need to play this weekend (October 11-13)
Issac Clarke exploring ruins in Dead Space Remake.

As we enter the middle of October, Halloween celebrations will only continue to ramp up. That makes this a perfect time to play horror games or games that elicit an eerie, autumn-like vibe despite all of the new releases like Metaphor: ReFantazio and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Thankfully, several new additions to Sony's subscription service, from PlayStation Plus Essential to Extra, fit that bill. Those are the games I'm drawing from as I recommend three more PS Plus titles for you to check out this weekend.
Dead Space
10 Minutes of Dead Space Remake Gameplay

One of October's PS Plus Essential monthly games is EA Motive's excellent Dead Space remake. It's an utterly gorgeous, faithful recreation of Visceral Games' iconic 2008 sci-fi horror game that's still one of the best-looking games on PlayStation 5. It's a must-play during this spooky season, even if one of the most frightening things about doing so is realizing EA doesn't plan to follow excellent remake up anytime soon. The PS5 version of Dead Space is available to all PS Plus subscribers until November 5. It's also on PC and Xbox Series X/S through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

3 new PS Plus games you should play this weekend (October 4-6)
Ellie and Riley look at each other in The Last of Us Part 1's version of Left Behind.

It's October, so it's finally time to start watching more horror movies and playing more horror video games to get in a spooky mood. Thankfully, recent additions to PS Plus are making it very easy to settle into that vibe. On top of that, a wrestling video game has just hit PlayStation Plus Essential ahead of the last big WWE events of the year. All of that has informed my picks for the three games PS Plus subscribers should check out this weekend.
The Last of Us Part I
The Last of Us Part I - Announce Trailer | PS5 Games

At this point, The Last of Us is so iconic that it needs little introduction. It was a landmark horror video game that set new standards for video game narrative with its tale about Joel and Ellie. It was originally released for PS3 in 2013 and remastered for PS4 in 2014. The Last of Us Part I is a remake built for PS5. It gives the entire game a visual overhaul and adds accessibility features and an overall game feel to bring the adventure more in line with its 2020 sequel. If you haven’t played The Last of Us yet, you need to try it out now that the definitive version of it is on PS Plus.
