At its highly anticipated event earlier today, Apple announced a host of third-party, home-centric apps, designed to work with the new Apple Watch, which is scheduled to hit the market on April 24.
Honeywell Lyric
Fear not if you forgot to lower your thermostat before bed. Use Honeywell’s Lyric Thermostat to save on your electric bill by choosing the, “I’m Going to Sleep” mode. Departing your assigned geofence? A notification will appear on Apple Watch, directing you to an option to set your house to “Out of Town” with a simple finger pat. You can also make temperature adjustments automatically in time for your return and receive a real-time snapshot of your home system along with extreme temperature warnings – all from your wrist.
Green Kitchen
This gadget helps you maintain a healthy home, too. The Green Kitchen app features dozens of healthy, organic recipes for dishing up nourishing, home-cooked meals. To ensure your fare is flawless, tap a start timer on Apple Watch and you’ll receive a heads up before your kale is overcooked.
Redfin
Is home-ownership in sight? Determine whether it’s a buyer’s market in your desired neighborhood using Apple Watch’s Redfin app. Apple Watch allows you to view photos of homes; map their locations; and retrieve prices, number of bedrooms, square footage, and time spent on the market. Use the dictation feature to record your opinions. Schedule a house tour with a nearby real estate agent with a gentle screen touch.
Lutron Caseta
Let there be light (or not) with the Lutron Caseta app. Too tired to turn out the bedroom light? Sweet dreams await with a tap to Apple Watch. You can also remotely control your lighting system from outside the home with this energy-saving companion.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts
Stop fiddling for your keys. Starwood Hotels & Resorts have made it easier to feel at home – away from home – using Apple Watch. Now you can make reservations, get directions, and unlock your hotel room door, all from your device.
With the likely integration of HomeKit, Apple’s framework for developers, even more robust domestic functionality is likely to emerge from this wearable computer.
