Over at IFA 2014 in Berlin, Acer didn’t just announce a slew of new notebooks during its press conference — the Taiwan-based company also announced three new tablets in its Iconia series: the Iconia Tab 8 W, Iconia Tab 10, and the Iconia One 8.
The Iconia Tab 8 W brings Windows on the cheap
The Iconia Tab 8 W, as you probably guessed from the “W” in the title, runs Windows 8.1. Powering the operating system and the tablet’s 1200 x 800 pixel display is its Intel Atom Z3735G processor. While the Iconia Tab 8 W is 9.75 millimeters thin and weighs just under a pound, Acer says it should give you up to 8 hours of battery life.
Storage is expandable via the tablet’s MicroSD slot, while the dual stereo speakers hope to give audio some liveliness to it. As par for the course, the Iconia Tab 8 W is equipped with a front- and rear-facing cameras. Finally, purchasing the tablet will net you one year of Microsoft Office 365.
You can purchase the Iconia Tab 8 W this November for $150.
The Iconia Tab 10 tries for a cinematic experience
Meanwhile, the Iconia Tab 10 displays Android 4.4 KitKat with its 10.1-inch 1080p IPS display. Acer makes special note of the display, which utilizes the company’s Zero Air Gap technology. Basically, it cuts the distance between the touch and LCD layers of the panel, promising minimized reflections and improved outdoor visibility, as well as improved viewing angles. The display itself is Gorilla Glass with an anti-fingerprint coating layered on top.
The Iconia Tab 10 is equipped with both a Micro HDMI port and Intel’s Wireless Display technology, which lets you wirelessly stream photos and videos, among other media, to a computer or TV. The two built-in stereo speakers are backed by Dolby Digital Plus, while a MediaTek quad-core processor, which is paired with an unspecified amount of RAM, powers the Iconia Tab 10 itself.
It can be yours in black or white this September for $200.
The Iconia One 8 wants to be your rainbow
Finally, if you always wanted to pick a tablet color that corresponds with the rainbow, the Iconia One 8 has you covered. The tablet will come in 10 different colors: Jade Green, Sunshine Yellow, Vivid Orange, Sky Blue, Essential White, Midnight Black, Fragrant Pink, Violet Purple, Mia Blue, and Garnet Red.
The Iconia One 8 is powered by the same Intel Atom Z3735G quad-core processor that powers the Iconia Tab 8 W, except that it runs Android 4.4 KitKat instead of Windows 8.1. Acer also threw in the same Zero Air Gap technology and anti-fingerprint coating found on the Iconia Tab 10, though the display itself, a 1280 x 800 pixel panel, might not necessarily turn heads.
While no pricing and availability was announced for North America, Europe will get the tablet this October for 150 euro.
