If you own an HTC One and have been waiting patiently for Android 4.4 KitKat, keep your eyes peeled, because an update should be just around the corner. According to HTC’s own portal for updates, the smartphone is in the final stages of approval before carriers are expected to push the update to customers.

As opposed to waiting for a rumor or test launch in another country like some other carriers, HTC decided with its flagship devices, such as the HTC One, One Mini, and One Max, to offer a fair amount of transparency as it gets updates sent out to customers.Through the HTC Updates Portal users have been able to see as the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat, has made its way from availability to hackers and developers, such as with the Play Edition of the HTC One, to end-users among the four major U.S. carriers.

The latest bit of news from this portal is HTC’s status update, which says that carrier versions of the HTC One KitKat update are not in certification. The certification step is pretty much the final step before the update will be pushed out over the air (OTA) by carriers, and basically is a bunch of internal testing made by the carrier to make sure the update meets their standards, supports all the added functionality the carrier may offer customers, and of course ensures intricate Android software, such as the kernel, are operating as best as they should with the hardware within the HTC One. But also, carriers just like to meddle.

However, news that the updates are in certification doesn’t mean we have a timeline for release. Usually it doesn’t take more than a few weeks for updates to begin popping up on select carriers, but it depends on a lot of factors. Nonetheless, this news means that you should certainly remain optimistic about seeing a update around the corner, even we don’t have any specifics yet.

OnePlus Nord Tabletop

The Google Pixel 4a and the OnePlus Nord have both achieved the nearly impossible by making budget smartphones exciting again. While they lack the sizeable price tags of their premium counterparts, they manage to offer many of the features you'd expect to find on a Pixel 4 or OnePlus 8. The Pixel 4a boasts a camera that's every bit as capable as anything on a flagship device, while the OnePlus Nord offers 5G support and strong battery life.

They're both great phones, but which one is better? We break down their specs and compare how they perform across a variety of categories, which will hopefully help you decide which one offers you the most value for your money.

Our pros recommend the Motorola razr+, and now it’s on sale
The Motorola Razr 2024's selfie screen.

Remember the early days of cell phones when brands like Motorola reigned supreme? Believe it or not, Motorola never actually went away; its modern lineup of phones just tends to be dwarfed by bigger brands like Apple, Samsung, and Google. Motorola devices still pack quite the punch, though, and one of our favorite phones of 2024 is also one of the best phone deals this week:

For a limited time, when you purchase the unlocked version of the Motorola razr+ on Amazon, you’ll only pay $800. At full price, this phone sells for $1,000. We tested this smartphone close to a year ago, and our reviewers had this to say: “The Motorola Razr Plus is the best flip phone foldable I've ever used. Between the unmatched cover screen, stunning hardware, and powerful specs, there's just so much to like.”

I learned 4 things that will change my photography forever

I take a lot of photos of cars. Whether it’s one of mine, a car in a showroom, cars at shows or meets I attend, or even cars when I’m in a different city. I do have a bit of an obsession. However, I’m not at all sure I am very good at taking photos of cars, as I usually end up taking the same old shot and struggle to think more creatively.

When a design-led electric car was loaned to me for a week, I decided it was time I addressed the problem head-on. I ended up learning plenty, but four key pieces of advice I was given left the biggest impression — and will change the way I take photos of cars in the future.
