Taco Bell’s Xbox Game Pass-style pass will put a taco in your belly daily for $10 a month

Taco Bell now has a subscription that lets you pay a fixed monthly price to munch on its offerings for a month. Now, before you start raging at the idea on Twitter and furiously type a lengthy Reddit post, hear me out. You pay just $10 and get to enjoy one taco a day, for 30 days in a row. The subscription service also has a delightfully apt name — Taco Lover’s Pass.

Here’s the basic fast-food calculus model to explain the whole idea. A Crunchy Taco Supreme costs $2.19. If you pay a handsome $10 for the Taco Lover’s Pass, you get to eat about $65 worth of tacos. Put it simply, you’ll save about $55 a month, while also pumping 190 calories into your body each day. “What a supreme deal,” says the press release, though some on Twitter had a different opinion.

Taco Bell now has a subscription card good for one taco a day for 30 days. That’s brilliant marketing. No one with that subscription could possibly live for 30 days.

The menu is somewhat limited, though. You can only choose from among the brand’s seven “most iconic” tacos, all of which are vividly pictured and listed in the image below. As for the name, well, it looks like Taco Bell’s partnership with Microsoft was an inspiration. Microsoft sells Xbox Game Pass, Taco Bill is serving you Taco Lover’s Pass.

What’s the catch?

The Taco Lover’s Pass can be purchased from Taco Bell’s mobile app. And before you start scheming, no, it can not be combined with other offers. The subscription is nontransferable, nonrefundable, and doesn’t have any cash value either. And it is an in-restaurant-only deal.

Simply put, you need to visit a nearby Taco Bell outlet and proudly brandish your phone to show the staff that you’re a Taco Lover’s Pass subscriber to get to enjoy a free taco in peace. How much gas money you burn while driving to your local Taco Bell is not the restaurant chain’s concern, obviously.

And then comes the all-too-important question of the human appetite. If your hunger can be calmed by a single taco, this is a terrific deal. But if eating a regular taco only fuels the fire in your belly for, say, a chalupa, you’ll have to pay extra. In that scenario, the Taco Lover’s Pass is reduced to just another subscription, and Taco Bell gets richer at your expense.

Not exactly a eureka moment

Taco Bell’s “Netflix for Tacos” service is not a fresh idea. Pret offers multiple tiers of its tea and coffee subscription service. Panera will also let you sip on unlimited iced/hot coffee and tea for $9 per month, and there’s a similar product available at BJ’s Beer Club.

Xbox Game Pass is getting its first Call of Duty game
A soldier with a shotgun pointing to shoot in Modern Warfare 3.

Xbox isn't waiting until Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to get a Call of Duty game on Game Pass. The company announced Tuesday that 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be added to the service on Wednesday, July 24.

The announcement was heavily rumored beforehand, with reports from outlets like Insider Gaming, but it was made official on Xbox Wire. Xbox confirmed that the game will be hitting Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate (so every old tier ahead of the upcoming price hike), and it will include most modes, including single-player and the more open-world Zombies mode. It doesn't appear to include Warzone, the series' battle royale spinoff, although that's free to play.

Is Xbox Game Pass really worth it anymore?
Games on Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox Game Pass is changing. On Tuesday night, Microsoft quietly announced that it was retooling its game subscription service. The change would bring new tiers, including one that doesn't feature "day one" releases, and a price hike to the Ultimate tier. Naturally, fans didn't take the news well. The decision has already been dissected by players who theorize that the end of Xbox's subscription service is nigh -- or at least that it's turning into a bum deal.

Are players overreacting over a couple of dollars or is there legitimacy to the doomsaying? It's likely a bit of both, but there's no doubt that Xbox Game Pass' value wanes with the new change. The question is whether or not it's still a good deal even if it's a pricier one. That's where things get complicated. What used to be a no-brainer for all Xbox players now feels like its geared toward a narrower audience. And I know for sure that I'm not the target anymore.
Is Xbox Game Pass worth it?
Let's recap what exactly is changing on Xbox's service. For starters, Xbox Game Pass for Console is going away for new subscribers. That will more or less be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Standard, a new tier that is missing one key perk: It will not feature "day one" games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Each remaining tier is getting a price hike. Xbox Game Pass PC will go from $10 to $12 per month, while Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will jump from $17 to $20 per month. Those are the tiers players will need to subscribe to in order to get "day one" games.

Xbox Game Pass is getting a price hike alongside complicated tier overhaul

Microsoft just announced some price hikes and tier changes for Xbox Game Pass, its video game subscription service. The changes, which go into effect on July 10, were quietly announced on Xbox's support site before being noticed by Wario64 and Windows Central.

The most notable change is that Microsoft will no longer allow people to purchase Game Pass for Console. While existing subscriptions won't be affected, people will have to instead opt for Xbox Game Pass Core or the new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier, which is launching "in the coming months." Xbox Game Pass Standard will cost $15 a month and give subscribers access to online multiplayer on consoles, but won't support cloud gaming or have immediate access to "some games available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on day one."
