The Last of Us lands 24 Emmy Award nominations

HBO has traditionally had a lot of success at the Emmy Awards, and this year’s nominations suggest that the premium cable channel will have another big night this year. HBO’s The Last of Us was second among all shows with 24 nominations including Best Drama. It was second only to HBO’s Succession, which had 27 nominations. Succession and The Last of Us will face off against two other HBO series in the Best Drama category: House of the Dragon and The White Lotus. Yellowjackets, Better Call Saul, Andor, and The Crown round out the Best Drama nominees.

For Best Actor in a Drama, The Last of Us‘ Pedro Pascal will go up against Succession‘s Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong, Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk, and The Old Man‘s Jeff Bridges. The nominees for Best Actress in a Drama are Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us, Melanie Lynskey for Yellowjackets, Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale, Keri Russell for The Diplomat, Sharon Horgan for Bad Sisters, and Sarah Snook from Succession.

Two men stand in a walk-in freezer.

After a four-month delay due to the dual writers' and actors' strikes, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards finally handed out awards on Monday night. The ceremony was scheduled for September 2023, but the Hollywood labor disputes for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences moved the show to January 2024. Despite the delay, actor and comedian Anthony Anderson remained as host.

The night's big winners were Succession, The Bear, and Beef, who combined to win 17 of the 27 awards presented on the telecast. Below, you'll find information on how to stream all the major winners from the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Three people talk in a room in Succession season 4.

The best television shows of the past year will be honored at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. The 2023 Emmy Awards were originally scheduled for September 2023. However, the Hollywood work stoppages led to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences delaying the ceremony to early 2024. Anthony Anderson will host the ceremony inside the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Succession leads all shows with 14 nominations in the program, directing, writing, and acting categories. Including the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Succession received 27 nominations, and it remains the heavy favorite to win Outstanding Drama Series. Outstanding Comedy Series will be a toss-up between The Bear and Ted Lasso, while Beef is the show to beat in the Limited Series categories.

Kaitlyn Dever cast as Abby in The Last of Us season 2
Kaitlyn Dever in No One Will Save You and Abby from The Last of Us Part II.

HBO's The Last of Us has cast one of the most pivotal roles in the show's upcoming second season. Via Variety, the network has announced that Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby Anderson in season 2.

Abby first appeared in The Last of Us Part II, and she earned a divisive response from fans for reasons that have too many spoilers for the second season for any non-gamers. Suffice it to say that Abby has a serious grudge against Joel (Pedro Pascal), and she is absolutely hated by Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The show's official description of Abby calls her “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.”
