The 2018 film A Quiet Place was one of the year’s surprise hits, offering audiences a tense thriller featuring a young family trying to survive in a world where terrifying creatures hunt anyone who makes a sound. A Quiet Place Part II brings back director and screenwriter John Krasinski behind the camera and picks up where the first film left off.
Here’s everything we know about A Quiet Place Part II, which is currently postponed, with no definite release date.
Release postponed
Initially scheduled to premiere March 20, A Quiet Place Part II has had its release date postponed indefinitely due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak. There is no new schedule for the film’s arrival in theaters.
New featurette
Paramount’s promotional onslaught for A Quiet Place Part II continues with a new featurette, released to YouTube on March 9. The short video sheds some light on Cillian Murphy’s mysterious new character.
IMAX poster
If you’re into thrills, you’re in luck: A Quiet Place Part II will be available to see in IMAX. Here’s the IMAX poster, released to Bloody Disgusting.
The clips
In an extended clip entitled “Run,” Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) accidentally leads her children into a trap that was clearly set by other humans. As they take off running, somebody lines up crosshairs on them.
Paramount released three more clips on March 8, entitled “Bus,” “The Stranger,” and “Wait Here.” At least two of the clips appear to be flashbacks to the events before the first film as John Krasinski is present in a bustling (panicked) small town.
The trailers
On February 24, Paramount released a new teaser and featurette for A Quiet Place Part II. Check out the teaser, titled What You Need to Know, and the featurette, titled Fight, below.
The first trailer for the film (see top of post) debuted January 1. The trailer features a mix of new and familiar faces for fans of the first film, as well as a look back at the first, horrifying day the creatures made their presence known.
A second, very brief preview of the film debuted ahead of the 54th Super Bowl. The 30-second preview opened with John Krasinski reprising his role as Lee Abbott in a flashback scene and offered a glimpse at the early stages of the creatures’ invasion.
The cast
Returning from the first film are cast members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, who play the surviving members of the Abbott family.
A Quiet Place Part II also adds newcomers Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) and Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) to the franchise.
The story
Krasinski began writing the script for the sequel a few months after A Quiet Place hit theaters, and the film reportedly picks up shortly after the events of that film, with the Abbott family setting out to find more survivors after their farmhouse was destroyed.
The official synopsis for A Quiet Place Part II reads as follows: “Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.”
Updated March 17, 2020, with news that the release has been postponed indefinitely.
