Amazon sets air dates for four series including Bosch, and The New Yorker Presents

The New Yorker Presents - Season 1 Official Trailer
After some surprising wins at the Golden Globes for its drama series Mozart in the Jungle, Amazon has released air dates for a handful of shows coming to the service in the new year, in hopes of digging deeper into the American consciousness — and, hopefully, grabbing a few more awards.

The streaming service/network is debuting its new show New Yorker Presents on February 16, a 30 minute series which turns the New Yorker’s award-winning magazine stories into video sketches. In addition, Amazon will be airing the debut season of the dark comedy Mad Dogs on January 22, the second season of police drama Bosch on March 11, as well as the second season of romcom Catastrophe on April 8.

We’re most excited to check out New Yorker Presents, which will air a new episode each week following its February 16 debut. The venerable magazine’s first foray into the TV series format intermingles a documentary style with short narrative films, cartoons, animations, poetry, and comedy. After seeing the pilont, we called it a “brilliant 30-minute visual tour through what feels like the creation of an issue from the magazine in motion,” Amazon said. Oscar-winning producer Alex Gibney is an executive producer on the show.

Mad Dogs, the other brand new show on Amazon, depicts the reunion of longtime friends now in their 40s. As you’d expect, uniting long lost friends together for a road trip could be a recipe for disaster. And that’s exactly what happens — in fact, someone gets murdered. Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Billy Zane (Titanic), Romany Malco (Weeds), and Ben Chaplin (The Thin Red Line) co-star in the show which debuts on January 22.

Bosch, which centers around a LAPD homicide detective following some dangerous trails of corruption and collusion, returns on March 11. Season two will begin with Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) and his team traveling to Vegas to investigate the case of a dead body found in the trunk of a car on Mulholland Drive. Also starring are Jamie Hector (The Wire), Amy Aquino (Being Human), and Sarah Clarke (24). The series is based off of Michael Connelly’s books.

Lastly, season two of Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan’s raunchy comedy Catastrophe will return on April 8. The season will yet again follow the haphazard romance of an American man (Delaney) and an Irish woman (Horgan) living together in London after a one-night stand went wrong. The crux of the second season is pretty simple: now there’s a baby involved.

The Concord cast eating in a diner.

When it was announced that Concord, PlayStation's live-service hero shooter, would be taken offline just two weeks after launch, many had the same question: What's going to happen to the Concord episode of the upcoming Amazon show Secret Level?

A source close to production confirmed to Digital Trends that the Concord episode is still set to air during the anthology show's first season. So despite the game currently not being available to play or buy, it'll get something of a second life inside the show, which is slated to debut on December 10.

Is Batman: Caped Crusader better than Batman: The Animated Series?
Batman stands in a dark alley in Batman: Caped Crusader.

Batman: Caped Crusader has finally premiered on Amazon Prime Video since its reveal three years ago and a turbulent transition from Max, evoking the spirit of the much-beloved 1990s show Batman: The Animated Series. It’s a daunting standard for this new series to match, especially since Batman: The Animated Series is a gold standard for many audiences, including the late Kevin Conroy who voiced the Dark Knight.

BTAS co-creator Bruce Timm helms this latest animated effort as the showrunner and an executive producer, with Hamish Linklater (Legion, Midnight Mass) lending his talents as the titular hero to take on this arduous task. It remixes ideas from its spiritual predecessor and the character's comic book source material to stand apart. While comparisons between the two shows are inevitable, how does Batman: Caped Crusader measure up to the revered 1990s series?
