What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in November 2024

Aldis Hodge in Cross.
Prime Video

James Patterson’s Alex Cross character is getting a third chance in live-action this month on Amazon Prime Video. Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry have previously portrayed the titular detective character. Now, Black Adam’s Aldis Hodge steps into the role. The new Cross series is Prime Video’s biggest debut in November, but far from the only noteworthy addition. There are a lot of new additions to the streamer’s movie lineup, including The Godfather trilogy, Silver Linings Playbook, and the unconventional vampire film Abigail.

Additionally, Prime Video is rebooting Cruel Intentions as a drama series, which has the potential to be another big hit for the streamer. And aside from Die Hard, there are only a handful of Christmas titles coming this month. We can appreciate a little restraint, especially since December will likely be a very different story.

Check out this great movie before it leaves Amazon Prime Video next week (November 2024)
Danny walks through the Overlook Hotel as an adult in Doctor Sleep.

Anyone who loves movies likely holds The Shining, one of Jack Nicholson's best movies ever, in high regard. It's one of the most important horror movies ever made, and it's also a movie that was quite loosely adapted from its source material, a novel by Stephen King. The author has never been quiet about his dislike for the movie adaptation in spite of its popularity, and even wrote a sequel called Doctor Sleep that expanded on his version of the story.

That novel eventually made its way to movie theaters, and it wasn't exactly a box office phenomenon. Before it leaves Amazon Prime Video at the end of the month, though, here are three reasons you should make time for it (the director's cut is particularly excellent).

Everything coming to Netflix in December 2024
A group of people stand together in Squid Game season 2.

Squid Game: Season 2 | Official Teaser | Netflix

It seems like only yesterday we were ringing in 2024. Now, it's almost December, and a momentous year is set to close with an avalanche of highly anticipated movies and shows set for release. Thanksgiving will give the public "Glicked," a double feature of Wicked and Gladiator 2 that aims to replicate the success of Barbenheimer. Then, there's Moana 2, Kraven the Hunter, the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, and, to close out the year, the retro horror flick Nosferatu.

3 sci-fi movies on Hulu you need to watch in November 2024
Cailee Spaeny aims a gun as David Jonsson stands behind her in a still from the movie Alien: Romulus.

You may have noticed that Hulu's primary sci-fi franchises revolve around three signature films from 20th Century Studios: Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes. Ordinarily, we would try to avoid using two films from the same franchise when picking the three sci-fi movies on Hulu that you need to watch in any given month. But for November, we had to go with two Alien movies, because the older one is a true classic that's back on Hulu after an extended absence, while the other is a hit from summer 2024 that's making its streaming debut this week.

To change things up, our non-Alien pick of the month is a sci-fi comedy from writer and director Mike Judge of Beavis and Butt-head and Office Space fame.
