The Mandalorian season 3 (March 1, Disney+)

The Mandalorian | Season 3 Official Trailer | Disney+

Fresh off the massive hit series The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal is back as the title character, otherwise known as Din Djarin, in this space Western series The Mandalorian, the first live-action series in the Star Wars universe. Djarin and Grogu reunited in The Book of Boba Fett after Grogu had gone with Luke Skywalker to complete his training, and now fans are eager to see how the story progresses for season 3.

This season will be full of intense action, more Mandalorians (as Pascal confirmed in numerous interviews ahead of the premiere), fabulous costumes and special effects, and more of the adorable Grogu honing his tremendous skills.

You season 4, part 2 (March 9, Netflix)

YOU: Season 4 Part 2 | Official Trailer | Netflix

February saw the first half of season 4 of hit psychological thriller You, and the back-half of the season is streaming March 9. With Joe (Penn Badgely) ready to engage in an intense battle with Rhys (Ed Speelers), who has quickly become his mortal enemy, fans are gearing up for a return of the old Joe Goldberg. His forced and fake new identity and persona, Jonathan Moore, will have to take a back seat, at least when he isn’t around others.

The second part of the season is far more fast-paced and shocking, with plenty of twists and turns that will leave jaws dropped to the floor. It’s no secret that despite Joe’s best efforts to be a better version of himself, he’s a leopard who can’t change his spots. But fans won’t see any of what happens coming.

Ted Lasso season 3 (March 15, Apple TV+)

Ted Lasso — Season 3 Official Teaser | Apple TV+

One of the most uplifting, feel-good series on television, Ted Lasso manages to mask important lessons about mental health behind the jovial and hilarious title character, played by a never-better Jason Sudeikis. Hired to manage an English football team, the American football coach doesn’t actually know anything about soccer (i.e., English football). But he’s determined to impart his wisdom, positivity, and charm on the team, and drive the struggling AFC Richmond Premier League team to success, both in their professional and personal lives. The task, however, proves much more difficult than Lasso imagined given that he isn’t exactly warmly received in England by the team nor the fans.

Returning for its third season following multiple awards for the first two, there are high hopes for Ted Lasso as the story shifts to a darker theme, with Lasso’s once-timid protégé Nathan (Nick Mohammed) now becoming his rival. This season is reportedly the last, so let’s hope they conclude things on a high note.

Extrapolations (March 17, Apple TV+)

Extrapolations — Official Trailer | Apple TV+

This limited anthology series created by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, An Inconvenient Truth) has a fabulous ensemble cast: Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, Matthew Rhys, Daveed Diggs, Sienna Miller, Edward Norton, and Marion Cotillard merely scratch the surface of the many well-known names who will appear. Set in a near future, climate change has wreaked havoc on Earth. The fate of the human race is unknown, and it seems like humans are fighting a ticking clock leading inevitable disaster.

Extrapolations follows eight interwoven stories from across the globe. Each person has important choices to make about love, work, faith, and family, with ripple effects felt in their own lives, as well as the lives of those around them. Extrapolations is a show about coming together when everything is falling apart. The series premieres its first three episodes on March 17, with a new episode weekly thereafter.

Succession season 4 (March 26, HBO)

Succession Season 4 | Official Teaser Trailer | HBO

The stakes are higher than ever for season 4 of Succession as the Roy children have been blindsided by daughter Shiv’s husband, Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), and their once seemingly harmless cousin, Greg (Nicholas Braun). With the future of Waystar Royco still hanging in the balance, the familial war between Logan (Brian Cox) and his grown children — Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), Shiv (Sarah Snook), and Connor (Alan Ruck) — is heating up as we head into what will undoubtedly be an explosive season.

Plus, there’s that little issue of Lukas Matsson (Infinity Pool‘s Alexander Skarsgård) still in the mix, who’s looking to acquire Waystar and shredding every bit of its reputation and legacy until it becomes an unrecognizable bit of archaic history. Chances are Logan won’t go down without a fight, and his children won’t be pushed to the wayside either. Who’s in control and how will it play out for all parties involved? Season 4 of Succession’s continued battle for corporate power premieres March 26.

Yellowjackets season 2 (March 26, Showtime)

Yellowjackets Season 2 Official Teaser | Yellowjackets | SHOWTIME

Can several teenage girls who survive 19 months in the wilderness leave the terrible things that happened behind them? Chances are no, and Yellowjackets explores this very premise with an ensemble cast portraying characters both as high schoolers in the ‘90s and adults in the present day. It’s clear the ladies are still dealing with the trauma of what happened during their time in the wasteland, much of which remains a tight-lipped secret. But as season 1 came to an end, shocking truths started to bubble to the surface.

Plenty will come to light now that Taissa (Tawny Cypress) is a senator and her wife knows the truth about her, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) has been kidnapped, and Lottie is up to something sinister. Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) joins the cast of Yellowjackets season 2, which returns March 26.

The Power (March 31, Amazon Prime Video)

The Power - Official Trailer | Prime Video

The new British sci-fi drama The Power, based on the Naomi Alderman novel of the same name, follows a unique premise: an event has occurred that gives every teenage girl the power to electrocute people. Whether they want this superpower or not, it’s provided at birth, inherited from their mothers and unable to be removed. After learning they can use these powerful jolts in their fingertips to awaken older women as well, the state of the world changes dramatically as females, young and old, rise up to change the power balance.

Toni Collette, Auli’I Cravalho (Moana), and John Leguizamo star in the exciting series, which is literally all about female power. Like the best science fiction, The Power takes an intriguing, far-out concept and explores universal themes of identity and power.

Every time we’ve seen Order 66 in Star Wars movies, video games, and TV shows
Anakin marches to the Jedi temple in Revenge of the Sith.

Twenty years ago, if you asked a Star Wars fan to name the most pivotal moment in the franchise’s fictional history, you could be confident that they’d answer with the Battle of Yavin, the climax of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. After all, this event serves as the starting point of the official Star Wars calendar; fans and producers alike measure time in Star Wars in terms of years BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin) or years ABY (After the Battle of Yavin), endowing the destruction of the Death Star with a historical importance within the fictional galaxy that's equivalent to the birth of Christ. Though the BBY/ABY calendar is still in service today, the ever-expanding Star Wars continuity now revolves around a different moment of historical import: Order 66, the flashpoint of the Jedi Purge and the rebranding of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire.
First depicted in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith in 2005, Order 66 has become the most revisited moment in the current Star Wars canon, and explored from a multitude of perspectives. Then-Supreme Chancellor Palpatine’s directive to execute the entire Jedi Order, from the ruling council to the youngest student, is now the inciting incident for Star Wars as we know it. Every character active in galactic affairs in the year 19 BBY has their own Order 66 story, and several of them have been depicted in film, television, and video games. Let's takea look back at each substantive on-screen portrayal of the Jedi Purge to determine what (if anything) each of them adds to our understanding of the tragedy and its repercussions on the Star Wars galaxy.

5 TV shows to watch if you like The Mandalorian
Joel Kinnaman sits in a chair and touches light in Altered Carbon.

The Mandalorian's third season has come to an end, and it's going to be a long time before season 4 rolls around. Since new episodes haven't even started filming yet, late 2024 or even 2025 is the soonest that The Mandalorian's next season will hit Disney+. Now, it's not like there's any shortage of Star Wars shows on Disney+, but none of them quite scratch the same itch as The Mandalorian. It's got a particular blend of sci-fi meets Western, with a cool bounty hunter, and the most adorable (and possibly only) Baby Yoda in existence. What show could compete with that?

As it happens, there are other series that offer a lot of the same things that we love about The Mandalorian. Not all of them are on the same level, of course. But if you follow our recommendations and watch these five shows, then maybe the long wait for The Mandalorian season 4 won't feel so long after all.
