Timothée Chalamet becomes a candy legend in Wonka’s first trailer

It’s going to be a busy fall for Timothée Chalamet. In November, Chalamet is headlining the highly-anticipated sci-fi sequel, Dune: Part Two from Warner Bros. and Legendary. And just over a month later, Warner Bros. will release Wonka, Chalamet’s second film of the holiday season. Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp previously portrayed the iconic candy maker in 1971 and 2005 within Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, respectively. But this new film isn’t a remake, it’s essentially Wonka Begins, the previously untold origin of Roald Dahl’s unforgettable character.

WONKA | Official Trailer

The newly released trailer seems to veer away from the oddly mean-spirited take that Tim Burton used in 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as Willie is younger and more idealistic than Depp’s interpretation of the character. This version of Willy Wonka actually appears to care about other people, and he’s unafraid to follow his dream even when the malevolent chocolate cartel threatens to derail his efforts before they’ve truly begun.

Hugh Grant makes a brief appearance in the trailer as an Oompa-Loompa, one of the strange men that served Wonka in his chocolate factory in the original story. Although we don’t get to hear the song of this Oompa-Loompa, the music appears to be a direct callback to the tunes from 1971’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Keegan-Michael Key also stars in the film alongside Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Jim Carter, Matt Lucas
Natasha Rothwell, Tom Davis, Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and Paterson Joseph as Arthur Slugworth. Given the events shown in the trailer, there’s a better than even chance that most of their characters will have transformative experiences if they dare to eat Wonka’s candy.

Paul King directed the film and co-wrote the script with Simon Farnaby. Wonka will hit theaters on Friday, December 15.

A war begins in the new trailer for Dune: Part Two
Timothée Chalamet in "Dune: Part Two."

By splitting Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel Dune into two parts, director Denis Villeneuve delayed the introduction of the story's primary villain: The Emperor of the Universe, Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken). But in the newly released trailer for Dune: Part Two, viewers finally get their first glimpse at the man who plotted the downfall of House Atreides. House Harkonnen may have struck the blow against their rival house, but Shaddam IV allowed it because he feared that the late Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) would unseat him. But the Emperor has badly miscalculated, because Leto's son, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), is now poised to make Shaddam IV's fears into a reality.

Paul chases his destiny in the first trailer for Dune: Part Two
Timothée Chalamet in Dune: Part Two.

In 2021, the first Dune was a rare pandemic-era film that wasn't hampered by being simultaneously released in theaters and on HBO Max. However, the sequel, Dune: Part Two, is going to have a theatrical exclusive release, and a much bigger scale if the new trailer is any indication. Throughout the first film, the inhabitants of Dune/Arrakis openly believed that Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) would be the one who united them. Now comes the hard part, as Paul has to live up to those predictions and become the great leader that the Fremen need.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie | Official Teaser Trailer
Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment -- the Universal Pictures animation studio known for creating Despicable Me, Sing, and The Secret Life of Pets -- first announced a movie based on the iconic Super Mario Bros. video game series in 2018. While series creator Shigeru Miyamoto was a producer on the film from the start and Nintendo acquired a film studio during this movie's production, the announcement that really turned heads was the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, where its shocking all-star cast was revealed.
During its segment in that Direct, we learned that Chris Pratt is Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy is Princess Peach, Charlie Day is Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key is Toad, Seth Rogan is Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen is Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson is Kamek, Sebastian Maniscalco is Foreman Spike, and Jack Black is Bowser.
