UltraPop, a photo editing app from UltraLab, allows you to “transform your pictures into eccentric pieces of art.” UltraLab released UltraPop 2.0 app for iOS, which features several acid neon filters and fun shapes to use while editing your photos. It’s one of the most psychedelic photo editing apps around.

UltraPop 2.0 comes with many new filter packs, including the following:

  • Classique: A selection of psychedelic filters that are being carried over from UltraPop 1.0.
  • Celestial: Filters inspired by sunsets and twilights meant to bring out the best in landscape and skyline pictures.
  • Synthetic: Six filters that have tones of pink and mint.
  • Irrational: Six filters that have acid neon and discreet photo effects.
  • Organic: Filters that add quirky, nature-inspired tones.

The UltraPop app also has an Instagram community, @ultrapopapp, where photographers can go and learn how to use the app. UltraPop also has a Tumblr page, as well, and many photography buffs draw inspiration from the designs on the pages. Although photographers seems to be the main users of the app, graphic designers also use UltraPop’s features to create artwork such as posters and music album covers.

Another addition to the app is the new store, where creative individuals can submit their art and sell their own filter packs. UltraLab hopes to bring together the mobile photo editing community and inspire people to make money off of their work. UltraPop users can help artists by purchasing their creative work through the UltraStore.

The UltraPop 2.0 app is available on the App Store worldwide, so creatives from anywhere can get started immediately. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices with iOS 8.0 or later installed. Ultrapop 2.0 is free with in-app purchases for additional filter packs that are also available on the UltraStore.

Here’s how iOS 18 is going to overhaul your iPhone’s email app
An iPhone showing the home screen in someone's hand.

We're just days away from Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024), which means we're about to get our first look at iOS 18. The new iPhone operating system is expected to get RCS texting in the iMessage app, more customization options for the home screen, and maybe a significant design change overall. Now comes word that changes will be made to the native Mail app.

According to AppleInsider, the Mail app is about to undergo a significant transformation. It's getting a powerful new search tool, Smart Replies, automatic sorting for different email types, and more. But the real excitement lies in the app's expected integration of AI functionality, a feature becoming a hallmark of iOS 18.

Google is making it easier to ditch your iPhone for an Android phone
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro in hand.

Switching phones is never a smooth process, even if you’re switching between two different Android phones. However, when you’re trying to switch from an iPhone to Android or vice versa, it can be extra complicated -- and you can lose data and apps that you rely on. This is especially the case with Apple-to-Android transfers because the iPhone has a much stronger ecosystem lock-in with things like iMessage, iCloud backups, and exclusive apps like Overcast and Hyperlapse.

The good news is that with its Data Transfer Tool (also called Pixel Migrate on Pixel devices), Google may be trying to mitigate some of the phone-switching problems that arise -- specifically, losing access to your Live Photos. According to an APK teardown from Android Authority, Google’s Data Transfer Tool will finally resolve the problem of migrating iOS Live Photos to Android. It will do this by converting them over as Motion Photos.

The iPhone’s new AI features may come with a gigantic catch
An iPhone 15 Pro Max laying face-down outside, showing the Natural Titanium color.

Imagine paying a minimum of $999 for a new iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, only to discover that it can’t run the full iOS 18 experience in less than two years. It might sound dystopian, especially for a product known for its long shelf life that's largely the result of an industry-leading software update policy at Apple.

Yet, it seems that nightmarish surprise will be here in just over a week. Bloomberg recently reported on some crucial AI-driven features coming to iOS 18, with Siri being one of the main recipients of all that innovation. But iPhone users might have to pay a pretty price for it all.
